if you are only staying here for a few days, I think I would say the beach is where is at.

I don't know where you can stay in northpark, hillcrest or university heights. If you want cheap go to hotel circle. It is really close to those places. if you want nice and walker friendly go to the gaslamp district. but you'll pay for it. i live in northpark and can't think of a place to stay.

Stayed here about a month ago now... Such a cool building and as I recall it was pretty reasonable.
