If it was not in your original estimate, they don't get it. give them a new estimate for printer brokering

Yes

You can either charge them directly, or have the printer upcharge 10 percent or so and they will cut you a check once paid. I usually don't charge for print communications. I just have the printer add my 10%-15% to the estimate and take it that way.

Aye, and be sure to account for the fact that, if anything goes wrong - it'll be on your dollar. This is something I've been fretting about recently, as a couple of jobs I'm working on have some pretty big print budgets behind them (relatively, for me, anyway) - so if they go wrong... erk.
I need to look into appropriate insurance for this, instead of winging it, like I have been for the past couple of years. Anyone in the UK got any advice here? (sorry to slightly re-direct your thread, wooyang).

your client should have E&O insurance

My standard is always 15% of whatever the print job costs. And yes make them sign off on every step of the way, it'll of course save your ass.

not to sound greedy, but if you can upcharge the printing through the printer and charge the client for print brokering, i would do it. You know you deserve it!

Yes, estimate at least 4-6 hours of your time for (press checks, phone conversations, traveling, deliveries, etc...) Also, add at least a 15% mark-up on ALL the printing. E.g. (I fit costs a $1,000 for the printing add $150- for yourself). These are common practices used within the design and ad agency industries.
Good luck

15% is my magic number for vendor mark-ups as well.

15% I was charging 10% thanks for the pointers.

15%?? 35% for print broking is not unusual - but usually you have to have a good relationship with printers (i.e. make sure you are dealing with a printer not another print broker!).
But the printer will bill you and you pay bill your client - and that's the tirck, its your risk, you are not a bank so you must charge something for it!

I charge 12.5% on printers and web hosting set up fees
