What are your thoughts about laying out a 2pg spread for a magazine but making it portrait?
Do you think the majority of people will be too lazy to turn the magazine to view the ad?
I'm debating this with co-workers and would like to hear your views.

I wouldn't turn the magazine. I would take a few extra seconds to concentrate and imagine it in portrait orientation though. I wouldn't read most of the text.

I've always found that a trifle irritating to be honest. The only people who ever made it good to do that were SPY Magazine in the very early days when exciting presentation detail was still important to them.

it'd have to be a really impressive design to get me to actually enjoy turning it... but I guess it hearkens back to Playboy spreads and things like that, so you have to think about that association and if it's appropriate.

The concept is similar to a Playboy spread with a hot chick as the model. But still, would people be less likely to turn it to view the message of the ad?

What advantage is there for the reader in applying this format?

- I agree, but I'm out numbered here. Any link or data to support this?story

I just laugh at people design in portrait in a mag, I do not even bother to see what it might be.
