Any spots I should check out? Haven't found an apartment yet anywhere I should look?

Rubifuse, I was looking at Kimbrough Towers, I was told it was nice, safe, I can get a cheap studio and its right in the center of a decent art area.

Why Memphis? Seems like so little is going on there.

Took a small promotion at work to get out of Detroit and see the south.

best choice you'll make rushmore, I did the same over 2 years ago, leaving detroit is a good thing and Memphis is a cool city, people that live there never seem to leave. I'm actually going back to detroit to work with a client for 2-3 months, then getting the hell out again... yeah!

Memphis has an AIGA chapter and there are some really cool people there. http://memphis.aiga.org/
- I was a member of that group while I lived there.

Ive heard some great things about Beale Street, Im looking forward to finding some unknown blues bars. I didn't realize that Memphis was the "Mid-south" I've heard that they still have a very "traditional" mindset so I figured it was pretty southern. Im bringing my motorcycle to do some weekend trips to get out and really find the backwoods juke joints. Any suggestions on housing Rubifuse? You seem to know the city well.
And thanks to everyone, im getting really motivated/encouraged by all the great comments on the art/design/music scene.
- you probably won't find the cool bars on Beale St. It's super touristy and about a block long.monkeyshine

Make sure you go to Cooper-Young. It is a small neighborhood outside of downtown. Really cool places to eat and just hang out. Beale Street is a bunch shit really and just sucks. A great place to go on a weekend trip is Graceland Too in Holly Springs, Mississippi. You can go anytime day or night. It is insane.
