Grid overlay

I've come across a few sites that have full screen video with a black grid overlay (though I can't remember any links).
This seems to allow video that is blown up and would normally be very artifacted and blurry to appear much crisper (though stylized).
Does anyone have links to any examples of this or articles as to why and how it works?

probably has a listener and on screen resize it swaps a higher stream quality.

i may have misunderstood your question, looking back on it.

It's video that has a black grid on top of it (I think I've also seen hexagons).
The video is scaled up, but the grid is crisp. 1 pixel lines a couple of pixels apart. I believe the purpose is to give the overall video a sharper image.

doesn't use a grid, but they do use a dat pattern.
I think it is a HD video stream - it still looks good maxed at 1920 x 1200

I used lines on this. http://www.thelevitationproject.… . I like the dot better though.

the dots work really well,
ive seen a site that has reverse dots, a black screen with the dots as 'holes' they are large though and the gap in between the holes (black) are more like dots (or +'s) if that makes sense.
it hides the pixels of the video and makes it look reet smooth!
