I was in a meeting a client, and they started to talk about their commitment to sustainability, and someone in the meeting said, "yes...this is something we want to hang our hat on" since then it appears to have rubbed off on everyone I see, was at a party at the weekend and a friend said it, I can't remember why, but he said it, who in gods name comes up with such dreadful phrases, If I hear it again I may not be responsible for my actions!

Maybe you should respond with “I’d like to hang your hat on a large spike. With your head still in it.”

I've always liked that phrase. Conjures images of a time when it was commonplace to not only wear a hat, but also to own a hat rack.

- you see even that sounds like bullshit!uncle_helv

Better than running it up the flag-pole and seeing if it flies

Well idiom or not it sounds terrible... to me it conjures images of a marketing woman called Camille, sat on her desk talking loudly into her speaker phone!
- kelpie0
that's quite an oddly specific image helv? is she wearing fishnets?
- Hahaha no trousers with braces probably! and uses words like 'just need to make a couple of amends' to describe four days worth changes to your design!uncle_helv

'... hang your hat on' eh?, I dunno if it'll catch on as a phrase, lets run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it.

top drawer, really... I can get on board with this line of thinking and it's definitely a bandwagon we need to jump on...

I think someone needs a bite of the reality sandwich.

come on, everybody knows that the guys who come out with these phrases are fakers; real people ONLY use acronyms in meetings.

as a dare over a year ago when i first met a client i pretended to have tourette syndrome and randomly swore my way through our first meeting with many profanities.
a year later and they are still our client and each time we meet i have to pretend to have tourettes.

That phrase may get me slapped less than "This is something I can really lay my cock on"

Well that phrase is really only used by those who ride high in the saddle I think. You have to have all your ducks in a row to not lay an egg dropping that sort of wisdom. If it goes south well, you just gotta realize that's the way the cookie crumbles.
