building my portfolio for the Design program at Emily Carr in Vancouver, BC, Canada...
Are there any design students/alumni from there with online portfolios I can check out for reference?
thanks!

Have you looked into the IDEA program at Capilano College? I was far more impressed with the work that the students from there put out this year over EC's grads.

Cap is consistently better.monNom

That IDEA program at Cap is good. I've seen some of work from a handful of grads that are working at good reputable agencies and they do have solid skills.
Obviously this is a 3 vs. 4 yrs thing, but even if the program at cap is not an actual degree, you could complete it later on I guess.

I interviewed 3 from Cap, would hire all of them. Didn't see one person from EC that I would even consider.

- Nice work indeed. Very much focused in one direction, will limit her chances in finding work I would think.2cents
- she's moving to Holland to keep studying, reckon she'll flip Canada the bird like me... problem solved :)neue75_bold
- If that's the case she'll do just fine. And probably for the better in the end.2cents
- Indeed, she'd easy get a job in London or Amsterdam, or just start her own thing...neue75_bold
- I'd be lying if I said I don't think of doing the same thing you did at times. I even got my Dutch passport just in case!2cents
- aye, I just had no option... I couldn't get hired anywhere, Concrete and Han Smith were the only studios interested..neue75_bold
- and I showed up drunk to my Han smith interview, so yeah, lucked out I guess...neue75_bold

I guess it depends on what you want to do with your education. Do you want to go work for an agency/studio in the city? Would you rather develop a personal style and freelance/contract for agencies/studios/clients?
I personally think IDEA is better suited if you want to go down agency/studio route.
- horton0
i can say that ECIAD grad shows are definitely more *fun* than Caps
- thehouseshook0
Agency/studio is definitely what I'm aiming towards. Freelance is great, but I'm looking for more stability.
Checked out that link for IDEA, that looks pretty awesome.
Thanks everyone!Horton! Are you from Nanaimo?
- Definitely look into IDEA then.2cents
