First reaction - the type on the left is completely unreadable

hurrtttingg my eyes

It goes from high contrast to low contrast all over the place. I'd fix that first.

Other than the type, it's not bad, the layout is kinda busy but I think it works. I have to admit I have no idea what the floating suitcase in the middle of the page is for. And if there are zero days left, why would I need to know anyway?:D

nice layout though :)
i am a prick, sorrry graphicart

what they said above...
... and the architecture / hierarchy of importance... feels odd.i want all those nice call-to-action areas in the bottom left to occupy the middle right... and the middle right to fill in as a footer or something...
... the top three boxes (that build that green gradient) are just far to over-powering w/little pay off by way of internal call-to-action (the links are booooring) :)
bring that feel from the bottom left column up top... some imagery would be nice...
... and the logo / branding... move that to the left margin...
... ugh... you gotta kill some green, dude... too much white type (small at that) on light colors...
... i could go on and on... I CAN'T EVEN comment on the gradient text in the middle-left-column... ugh... really tough to even look at it.

the show has already happened. the ticker went up a little each day, but starts from the bottom each time to go back. the speaker and judges pages have few tricks. that type is the type that was on a poster that a co-worker of mine did.

why the ugly gradient in the text?
- graphicart210
because gradients are ugly and nobody uses them.
the site had to foremost be designed to hold an ass-load of links that could go on forever if need be (right column) but i do agree that the middle modules could be played up more. the top 3 boxes with all the links runs the whole site, so lessening the importance of that would be counter productive. i guess i dont understand the "internal call-to-action" comment.....

I think he means that against the green background, those links don't really pop out and encourage you to click on them.
Overall, I think this site would benefit from a lot more white space with dark type rather than vice versa. Save the green for just a couple areas of the screen and simplify the rest. Especially on the homepage, the color combinations are so jarring it makes it less easy to read and move through the site quickly.

first reaction... too much content, text and links. I got I migraine headache trying to figure out what to do or click on.

the main image containing text (gradient background) has been optimised for a larger size than it is being displayed at and thats why it looks low res. re-optimise the image for the size you want it to display at

I really liked the flash page that was up before this one. It was the same style and colors, but there were these little lines that were animated.
Did you do that one too?
Anyhoo, I think the site works great considering the target audience.
- pango0
kinda boring. it doesn't pop! you know what i mean?
