Illustrative designer Zeptonn (http://www.zeptonn.nl) has just released his self-published new book "Black & White Freedrawings". After more than 8 months of drawing, organizing, doodling and art directing the project is now available!
The project is a unique exploration of collaborative drawing. Over 40 international artists were invited to collaborate on a drawing with Zeptonn. The collaborations were set up like "collab tennis", where the artists each take turns adding to the artwork until it is finished. The collaborations are called "freedrawings" to highlight the lack of restrictions, themes and guidelines, giving the participants free reign to experiment and explore. At the same time these drawings are not a preliminary sketch, but the final artwork. They are shown in their pure form, without any editing or polishing. In 132 pages filled with freedrawing collaborations the artists take you on a journey through the process of collaboration, meanwhile showcasing their personal illustrations and working spaces. The book features work of people like Jon Burgerman, DGPH, Philip Tseng, Hello Brute, Hicalorie, Jawa, Mulheres Barbadas, Nick Deakin, Peskimo, Meomi, Von Glitschka, Shin Tanaka, Meni Tzima and many others.
The book is produced in an eco-friendly manner, using a waterless printing process that reduces environmental impact. Computer-to-plate technology and silicon plates eliminate the use of chemicals and water, and vegetable-based inks further reduce resource use and pollution. The paper used is FSC certified 100% recycled, and is produced in a climate neutral fashion.
Black & White Freedrawings is 132 pages of doodle goodness, 210 x 297 mm, featuring over 160 illustrations and more than 100 photos. It comes with an additional yellow dustcover that can double as a poster. The first edition has only 450 copies for sale.

Brand consultant Baskerville thinks that it looks really nice.
I bet you were the 'good drawer' in your school. Your excercise books must have been covered in doodles.Tell us more about this printing process sounds interesting.

oh wait, you didn't draw it all.
Weird because it all looks pretty much the same style to me.

Correct, I didn't draw all of the pages. But most drawings you see are the result of me collaborating with a befriended artists - hence the similarity in style. Apart from that, most of the artists involved are coming from pretty much the same 'world', which is why the artwork is already similar (I suppose).
What would you like to know about the printing process?
