Morning all,
Okay, here's my trouble! I just (yesterday) downloaded the latest wordpress package - 2.5.1.Got it set up on my server and straight forward writing of a blog is good to go.
But the trouble I have is that if I click on the add image/video/audio links the box comes up on the screen but if I click upload/browse it just seems to lose the will to function - and doesn't work!!!
Audio is the main thing that I need to be able to use - I'm on a mac - and in FF it just shows a little adobe type preloader/spinning doofer - and in safari it don't do jack!
Is there some restrictions on putting wordpress onto ones own server - from what I can find on the forums and stuff it all seems to be relating to the blogs on the wordpress hosted server?!
Is this part of using wordpress? do you 'have' to use their hosting and sign up for the additional services etc...
or can it be used on an independent server?
...anyone?
or does anyone know of an open source blog package that will in fact let me upload directly from the desktop?
I found a good(ish) one on sourceforge.net called podcast gen - but it doen't allow for multiple contributors, comments etc...
Anyone point me in the right direction to get this this thing working please?

I had loads of trouble using the add media options on wordpress posts because the overlay box comes up, you choose your file, click to save it and either get an error message or blank box.
I don't know if it's fixed now but I found a thread on the wp forums saying that if you use the admin page as the only tab in your browser (close all tabs but the admin page) it seems to work alright.
That's what I have to do anyway and it works on FF/Vista IE/Vista so I assume it'll be the same on mac.

I'll give the tab thing a try - thanks again Jamble

...arse! that doesn't seem to work either - I'm not supposed to change permissions or anything of folders on the server am I?
This is pretty dumb - why offer something that doesn't work! or at least doesn't work straight of the box and doesn't have any help to make it work!...
I tried closing everything apart from the admin panel - and it is still the same - spinning doofer on FF and JackSh*t on safari!!!

Might be best to try a plugin to add audio, there do seem to be a few bugs still to be ironed out with the add media bit in wordpress.
Here's a couple via google:

...well, I have tried a little regressive experimentation - and I can upload any format of file in older versions of wordpress - but 2.5 doesn't seem to be able to upload?!?!?!
Linking to mp3's stored elsewhere on the net works and the player appears and plays as it should - but I just can't upload directly???
...any wordpress heads here? why would this be that the direct upload doesn't work in 2.5??? nnnrghhh!

yeah there are some serious bugs in 2.5's upload function.. I read it's because of Flash.. search the Wp-forums, there is an alternative that switches off Flash for uploads.. havn't tried it yet, but changing the htaccess thing didn't work for me (nor did the tabs thing).

- ...maybe one of those will do it ?wwfc

I think that happens because you have more than one browser instance with Wordpress open. Try closing all the others.

Yeah, I had a similar problem to this. Had to change the permission on the uploads folder to 777. ...actually I think I may even have had to manually create the folder too.

...no-flash-uploader.php into the plugins folder and activated...

worked for me atleast! - hope it saves any others the wasted day I have just had!!!
