It's worth a try. are there any designer/car mechanics here. Anyone that knows a lot about engine parts.

I know sum... what's the question?
- dbloc0
ever heard of an LKQ engine...It's aftermarket
- dbloc0
I need an engine replacement and someone is offering this for a lot cheaper. Just wondering if it's a piece of shit or not
- ntslide0
those motors are mostly pick and pulled. Is it that much cheaper? I'd make sure to get a compression test and a good lookover... what's the motor you need replaced?

what kinda car? lkq looks to be a rebuild outfit that puts a 6 month warranty on mechanical parts. not sure if the warranty is transferable.
like ntslide mentioned - def get it compression tested. if it's ever overheated, the heads may be warped. you could be opening a can of worms. could be a great deal, though. it's just a gamble unless you can get an engine history and complete diagnostic.
good luck!

it's a 1999 Jeep wrangler 2.5 4WD
- dbloc0
I plan on selling it soon after it's installed
- ntslide0
ah.. then get it running... get it detailed and get rid of it. I wouldn't pay much more that $900 for that motor though.
- dbloc0
really? this is the quote.
parts. 1658
labor 1150
tax 130sound too high?
total 2968

or another guy offer a used engine from another jeep with 65K on it installed for 2700

sorry D.. got going on a project. I'd recommend seeing what from your existing setup you can salvage. water pump, alternantor, power steering pump as much as you can get. all that stuff really ads up. The labor looks right, the parts are a little steep.

sell it all and buy a Defender.

to rebuild a engine cost more as it has way more labor into it.
- not necessarily. an engine rebuild can be quite simple.amullins
- well, that was not the case when I looked for one for my honda. so, i got one from japan instead.akrokdesign
