I noticed that everyone has strange things that scared them when they were little. Sometimes obvious, sometimes odd minutiae.
What scared you?I was scared of:
-Album cover of "The Stranger" by Billy Joel
-This Sesame Street segment involving these guys in separate beds with long beards. One wanted the window open and the other wanted it closed. Freaked me out.
-There was a station ID for a movie channel that scared me. This is circa 1979 in Florida, so I can't remember which.

My cousin was deathly afraid of stickers. All stickers, puffy, smelly, mailing labels. Until about age 11 or so.

- Pennywise from "IT"
http://images.google.com/images?…- The opening sequence of "Are You Afraid of the Dark" and "Goosebumps". I closed my eyes for anything that revealed an attic or clowns.
- Toy clowns and porcelain dolls (or anything that seemed like it could be watching me while I was sleeping).
- Our basement (before it was finished) and two huge paintings we had down there. The paintings were of matadors, bulls, etc.
- Ever see the Ice Cream Man?philipdrumman

Water being sprayed from a shower or waterpark feature. I HATED water shooting at me until I was about 8 or 9 years old. My dad used to have to wash my hair in the kitchen sink. I went to this Sesame Place amusement park when I was 6 or 7 and was terrified in these mazes or attractions that included jets of water spraying at face level. Horrified. Crying.
Since I've taken up a water boarding fetish in the past year I've finally come to grips with it.

When I was about 6, my folks went around to some friends house for dinner. Afterwards, they watched 'Poltergeist' and 'The Hand' and blithely let their innocent and sensitive wee boy watch on, horrified.
For years afterwards I had a horrific fear of maggots (from the scene in Poltergeist when the guy eats a sandwich and they spill from his face) and my step-father, who would wait at the bottom of the stairs for me to come down, then scuttle his hand up the bannister, sending me shreaking back up to my room. The bastard better hope he never ends up in a care home - I'ma going to make his life hell.
