I like a bit of the old portishead stuff too, though I can;t see myself ever listening to it now. Tricky was shit with a capital S, and sorry but I never warmed to more than one or two massive attack tunes.
Kool Keith is great and utterly shit in equal measure.
Antipop, now there's a stroke of genius, but I reckon they're right into all kinds of chemical add ons, an open church. If you've ever seen them live you'd know that.
For me, much of that kind of thing is overindulgent, noodly, prog-as-hip-hop stoner pish which is only good for nodding your head too in clubs where 90% of the punters couldn't dance if their lives depended on it.

agree with everything Kelpie said except for the antipop bit... I find them equally as annoying as any of the Def Jux 'theologians' trying to wax intellectual about their energy for noting/propensity for density...

if you do like downtempo stuff though, and I often find it really tiresome, you should love the 2nd album on here though, mixed by tim love lee, its a belter

well, the new portishead is fucking brilliant, but I like mashed up disco banger as much as the next man, I'm just sick of the coke vibes going down at the night clubs these days.
shit, it was just a few years ago when I you used to be able to smoke a blunt in the club, but now even ecstasy has been eclipsed.
