Art?
My grandma could paint that...- Your close minded perception of art is shocking and offensive. Paint it then, think of all the money you could make. I'm once again reminded why so many designers are so far from being artists.brains

I can't believe how close-minded some of you are.. Good abstract art is the physical manifestation of the way that someone's creative entity works. If you think you have the same thought process and abilities as abstract artists. Prove it. Show us. Twits.

"Nobody has touched paint to any of her canvases."
Possibly true, but who can say. I would imagine though that if her parents did not make her put down her brushes after a given amount of time, Marla would paint what we all painted at that age. A canvas full of dingy smudges.

Anyone else who's seen the movie notice how the father almost shit his pants when the wife mentioned a polygraph test?

Apparently "her" work is still being sold in galleries. I believe she is 7 years old now.
As I stated at the start, I really feel sorry for Marla whether or not it really is her doing the work. Kids should have the chance to be kids.

I totally agree. It's sad. I really don't think it's her work either. There's such a great divide between her start to finish work, and the famous gallery stuff. Poor little one. At least you would hope that she'll get the $500,000 that they've accrued.

sucks for the gallery owner and collectors too... you can see their reputation is on the line.

One million monkeys typing ect ect
Just like Pollock its a bunch of paint tossed on canvass which happens to be visually pleasing. Then Dad rolls in and selects the good ones and polishes them up. It so obvious that it hurts.

Great movie I loved it.

like many after him Pollock dripped a bunch of paint onto a canvas. Nothing more. Nothing Less. It was new and crazy at the time and the art world fell in love with it. This doesn't take away from the fact they are often beautiful and well composed. Jacksons talent lied within his ability to play the part/role of artist - which is why he is so fondly remember today.
Need proof? Look no further than all the disputed Pollock pieces floating around. Anybody can do. Not everyone can be remembered for doing it.

I remember when "20/20" had an "art show", where they had art by children up in a museum. Then they asked "experts", collectors, and viewers to comment, and they were so elitist about it. Their descriptions were peppered with large words referencing famous painters from the past. It was hilarious to see their reactions once it was revealed that children from normal schools had painted the art.
"20/20" did a similar test with water bottles and tap water too.
- I realize there are holes in this tactic but it was still funny to watch their faces.Jaline
- I remember seeing that, I found it funny.Complexfruit

watched this last night. Still not really sure if Marla is the true artist in the family but did you see the dad's paintings? Looked like a 12 year old did it so he surely could paint at a 4 year old level.
P.S.
I think the mom was kind of hot in a Jenna Elfman kind of way (except for her stupid arm band tattoo)
