Seriously...why is Adobe still developing this program? Their Adobe Labs site boasts the title "Rapidly Prototype and Design for the Web". Personally, I don't prototype web sites as much as others as my work is mainly print but, photoshop works great to make comps or just a photoshop/css/html combo as you were designing a site and not just a comp. Also, they go on to feature their CSS and image export capabilities. Would you really want Fireworks writing your CSS? I wouldn't. I'm not sure how exporting images is so awesome either. Photoshop handles that quite well already.
Maybe this is geared towards amateurish designers or coders. Not sure. I always thought they were phasing out Fireworks

I find it better for compresssion in some insatnces. Im glad its not going anywhere.

I use this app mainly for batch processing ,

Optimizing images for web in Fireworks is way superior than Photoshop

nope its not geared towards amateur designers or coders as most people do not even use it to shoot out code. We use it here integrated with photoshop in our workflow. It has some very useful features when building for a flash site, optimization, etc. I honestly wish they would drop imageready for fireworks.

a few of the pluses:
- creating symbols that will directly import into flash.
- using symbols for duplicate objects so when brought into flash it uses that one symbol instead of a zillion images.
- vector work in fireworks is great and translates well over to flash (I wish this would be built into photoshop as well)
- it's a png powerhouseIt's not a replacement or competitor to photoshop like a lot of people who first here about it think. It is actually a compliment to photoshop. Fireworks is not a strong image manipulation app.

Interesting that a guy that doesn't use the app., nor design for the medium, feels confident enough to deem it amateur.
And while I'm throwing piss around, feel free to use the filter and bitch in an existing thread.

Oh, not again. I love fireworks and I love PS, use them for different things.
Finished.

By the way, I find it to be a great tool to have in the toolbox and hope it stays alive. Feel free not to use it, though.

section_014, didn't read that you were mainly print. Yeah for you it probably has no purpose in your workflow.

I've heard it's great when working with flash. My flash skillz are limited to making images fade so it wouldn't do much for me.
I'll stick to PS just because i'm comfortable with it.

why would a print designer give a flying shite one way or another anyway?

i have the CS3 master collection.
there's no ImageReady with it, so i have to use Fireworks for animated gifs. the usability is aweful. i want my ImageReady back!
