So i'm finally in a situation to chose work.
would you rather take a corp. editing job that pays high, short 8 hr day, freelance to full tme vs taking very low pay for an asst editor job working on more creative work-- projects i'd ideally be working on...

Depends what your motivation is, money or good work.

the answer lies in your question.

my soul is sold to the corporate giants ... i do more creative stuff after hours

At this point, I'd take the money. I can find freelance work that I enjoy.

depends on how 'creative' the other work is
- 8 hrs/day you got lots of time to be creative by yourself********
- if it's your ideal work then do the ideal work********
- 8 hrs/day you got lots of time to be creative by yourself

I do the corp. gig 6-8 hours a day, its laid back, easy and I set my own pace. I freelance at night, weekends, whenever to get my "creative" fix. It's nice, I have a income that's always there and the freelance is a nice extra income. If I ever feel the need to freelance full time I have those resources ready to be called on.

Not sure why, but the following phrase leapt to mind:
Shit in one hand and wish in the other. See which fills up faster.
Hopefully, it helps.
- um... i have a handful of steaming feces... now what?7point34
- generating quite a few dirty looks around the office i might add7point34

Take the creative job.

Weigh the advantages and disadvantages of both and take the one that provides more nourishment to your sense of well being. Also, look at your long term goals and find out which option is a better fit for achieving them down the road.

Corporate job will eat your soul if you take it. Been there. Done that.
- but the money sure was nice. It set me up to do my own thing.Melanie

how about take the best job where you can learn as much as possible where you can decide your career and grow as much as you can and also make the most money. take a gig where you can live your life and en joy your rewards from it. dont clasify the job in these limited grays such as corporate or not corporate.
1 of those 2 is very much stronger than the other, but both of them are jobs, which one to you holds the best options.
asking us is not where you need to focus your energies. weigh each option out and compare them in long terms not in the moments of now.
where do you wnt to be in lets say 5 years? will either of these 2 organizations yeild your goal or not, that is the question.

do corporate and freelance on what you want to instead of what you have to.
- e-pill0
^ do not do that, as that is a conflict of interests to the corporate company and you can be fired for that.
- plus its your rep and to start out doing shady business is a no no red flag!!! bad!!e-pill
- disagree. People who hire graphic designers know they freelance no matter what unless********
- they're just making seriously good money********
