why dont we see demonstrations here in England? I mean everyone hates freaking gordon brown, and hes only in power because he is not giving us the right to vote him ut of power. That seems like a dictatorship. So why arent we out there on the streets sadaming husaining his ass outta there?!

There was a email going around a few days ago saying that if consumers don't buy from the top two outlets (BP and Esso) they'll be forced to reduce prices because their majority share of the market lets them dictate the price.

maybe its time to invade some new countries to get oil and gas cheap.
russia seems to have more than their fare share of gas at the moment and supplies a lot of europe.
let us get the US and UK to invade russia to steal their gas :)

@milky_joe, I thought that, but to be fair from what I've seen where I live last few weeks, they've been right on the ass of what everyone else is charging. Usually I'd expect tesco/morrisons to be a little cheaper than BP/esso etc, but pfft not the case.

It will go down in time, but in the mean time just buy from them to give them more business to help them reduce costs, a supermarket would be the first company to reduce the rice out of anyone.

In new york yesterday I went to fill up my tank and the gas man said to me, hurry up and get gas now, the price is going up. It was $4.09 and it was going up to $4.13. 4 cents within minutes. I feel bad for gas attendants, people are going to start mobbing these people. I am also afraid to fill up my tank full, in fear someone will syfin out some of my $50 bucks from my car.
I can't imagine what you guys in the UK are feeling like, when we have relatively cheap gas over here. Even though I am really starting to feel it now.

Syphoning of fuel from your motor is nothing new over here. I even know people who have had their tanks drilled and emptied.

Oil prices are being driven by speculators, plain and simple.
There is no significant increase in comsumer demand, nor decrease in suppliability since this time last year, yet the marketeers have gone crazy, buying THEN SELLING oil stocks and futures, it's just money chasing money, ever upwards.
Add to the artifically high cost of the product a ludicrous taxation rate and you have the real cost increase multiplied out of all proportion.
I would be interested in seeing figures for Govt fuel tax revenues for the last year, and precisely where it has gone.
People drive because they need to, to make the economy and society work. Noone drives for any other reason - setting criminal laws into place on the back of some flawed eco studies does not curb people's need to drive vehicles.
Driving vehicles isn't and never has been the problem.
Voting the Tories back in isn't the solution.
