Anyone experienced this? I can read regular CD's, play DVD's but for some reason it won't mount or read data DVD's it says that they are empty?

FUCK, the terrorists have won!

Try it in a PPC mac if you can. It's probably because of the terrible new drives Apple uses.

My MB pro take like 45 minutes to copy 1.5 g from a DVD.

the same dvd disks work in other macs just fine. stupid stupid mac

update the drive firmware

it's not a copy protection thing, it's just a data dvd with a bunch of images, works fine on the mac beside me running leopard too...so bizarre.

That's why it's a bug... go to Applications/Utilities/System Profiler and check to see if the drives are from different manufacturers. Bet the dud is a Matshita. Or it could just be that that drive doesn't read the exact type of disc you're trying to open.
Macs get slightly different parts as runs progress, so MBPros produced a month apart are likely to have different drive models, updated logic boards, etc.

this is funny because Apple's big thing is supposed to be multimedia

What a coincidence. I've got a new MBP 17" the other day. I couldn't burn a MP3 data DVD from itunes about an hour ago. So i tried dragging the files on and burning direct. It took aaaaagggggeeesss to mount the blank DVD then said it couldn't verify after burning! Summin is fishy!!!!

there are reports of DVD weirdness exactly as you describe. i'd call up apple

also, regarding the copy protection thang, there are firmware hacks out there to remove region code restrictions for certain drives. google it.

I always had problems with my powerbook superdrive. Worked like a treat for a few months then started constantly fucking up burning dvds.

I thought Macs were foolproof?

I didn't feel like proof reading all of these, but I think they're all the same thing I'm talking about:
http://discussions.apple.com/thr…
http://www.philmug.ph/forum/show…I couldn't find any of the discussions I looked at back when it was happening to me, since this was '05/06 I think. What I remember was that it loaded in every PC fine, fine on the iBook, iMac, etc but never on my MacBook Pro or any of the Intel macs after the RevB run or something.
- I tried the same disc in some of my friends' Stadium Arcadium boxes and had the same thing. It was uncanny.ismith
