- you could pay 1500 for a very nice 1bd on portrero hill... or lower haight/western addition/mission... all nice areas. just have to look a bit. SF is not short of apts like some cities.********

2k would get you a lot more than a small studio. i have a 2-bed, living room, dining room for 2200. it's out there if you have the time to search for it.

although, i do pay 1200 for a small 1 bedroom. people usually shit a brick when they hear that though. i paid 1300 in the sunset and now 1200 in the mission. i got lucky.

if i could find a large studio, like 600sq ft for the $1500, i would be alright w/that. if i have to be poor to have a decent roof over my head, so be it

i think that's possible. also consider that the construction here is different than say ny, a lot of old victorian and edwardian single family homes converted to multiple units- huge windows and doors and really high ceilings. i lived in a place in the lower haight with 14ft high ceilings, it just feels huge

I hope you'll be making a lot of money because you'll be psending a fair chunk of it on rent alone. I lived there for a year (in the Tenderloin), and it's a great city (barring the weird Bay area politics), but not worth the cost in my opinion.

well, a lot is fairly relative. 35k is baltimore is very healthy and 40k is a lot, in my eyes. i saw salaries in my experience level ranging from high 30s up to about 55k in the bay area, i'll be shooting for the middle and hoping for more. my current situation provides a decent income to housing ratio, that will change come end of summer when i need to find another place though. the joys of moving! thanks everyone
