art is a by product of human consciousness, a necessary valve/mirror/voice/whatever you think to what it means to be human and a civilised animal. It reflects where we are in the progress of the race at all points through our history, but expresses the emotional and philosophically abstract side which cannot be written in books with dry historical facts. Apart from that, its whatever any of us claim it is, how arrogant is it for one human being to say what is and isn't art?
