haven't beards superseded these as the hipster to have?
- they're rocking both now. Beards on a fixie and you are GOLDENThe_CCG

i hear big wheels are the next big thing.

Big wheels are also cool because they are direct drive, as are unicycles...

I think it's funny how all these hipsters are suddenly deep into cycling culture, debating the virtues of Campy and steel lugged frames after having not been on bikes since the 6th grade when they told their parents that they couldn't ride their bike to school anymore because "their Huffy got stolen." Truth be told, there is a quarry in every town stacked deep with kids bikes that were thrown in so they wouldn' t look like the nerd on the bike.
WHO'S A NERD NOW,HUH?!!?!?!?!

trendspeeds.
I've raced mtn bikes xcountry and downhill for 15 years, and I must say I've done pretty well in that time. Yet I'm thought of as square or noob by these new exclusionary d-bags fixie kids.
So silly to me. Ride if you want, but the bandwagon elitism is just lame.- you are right sir.mrdobolina
- it's just kids with no identity that feel they need to belong. sux that i get lumped into that categoryacescence

a back brake on your bike isn't going to slow you down, really.
- rear brake? on a fixed gear? who would ever do that? i will say though, on the DH it makes a *huge* diffmadirish
- *DH bikemadirish
- because you are in the city?mrdobolina
- tell me some benefits of not having a rear brake.mrdobolina
- You don't need a rear brake. Your legs do the braking because of the wheel being fixed.alexand
- that isn't brakes, it is stopping pedaling.mrdobolina
- most your stopping power is in the front, since in a hard brake your rear wheel loses traction.skelly_b

Would anyone care to tell me what the big deal about fixies is?
Why not make a "road bike" topic? I've yet to be proven that fixed gears are only for the trendy and hipsters.

I would like to have the frame all silver...maybe just sand it all and clear coat it if its steel. Get a brown Brooks saddle, and brown wraps, that would look tight.

a fixed drive train is the original form of locomotion on a bicycle, so it's certainly nothing new. not sure why everyone has jumped on it as of late, i was always the nerd in the bicycle world for wanting to ride in circles on a track. personally, i prefer it because it's a wholly different experience from a freewheel bicycle, an experience that i prefer. difficult to put into words, it puts me in a very meditative state.

Man I need to go riding ......
