so now Carl Icahn is part of the Yahoo board. Reuters said that a deal with MS is much less likely now. Why is this? Hedge?

You have to realize Icahn's nature. He's a winner. He doesn't have to enter into deals that aren't exactly in his favor. If he believes that making a deal with MSFT will not be profitable for YHOO, he will simply not do it.
