I've done it many a time with tucked punctuation, I find that when a trademark is hanging up there after a word and THEN the unkerned punctuation comes, it creates a hole in the sentence. Then again, the trouble with tucking punctuation is that it can look like the punctuation is part of the trademark.
My boss (20+ yrs. experience) always tells us to tuck punctuation under trademarks...

wonder what it says about us that only designers and lawyers notice this arcanery.

Going by basic grammar, I would say that the comma should come after the symbol. Quotation marks are a different story. But I don't know how you typographers do it. You could probably adjust the kerning a bit to make it look pretty.

You know, this could be one of those things like how to use dashes: some typographers say—this way, other say – this way. Tomato, tomahto.
Just be consistent.

^ the red one.
Like when you put a comma after a quote (I think Yanks put the comma inside the quote, so that doesn't count).
- 5timuli0
I've always put commas inside quotes and I'm from the UK. It's the done thing.

I think on one line like that, if it were a strapline or headline for example, I would go with the red one - in paragraphs I would close the space after the comma down and move the comma as close as poss without tucking.

I know Americans put the comma before the end quotation mark, but others use the British method and place it after. It could probably go either way, but I still think the Trademark should be very closely associated with the text before it and not the comma.

They French also do « this » instead of "this", like they have their own language or something!

Bloody hell, you'll be putting serifs on O's next. Rome wasn't built in a day-centre you know, oh no, it was built properly was that day-centre, they had contractors in and everything.
Do I live here now by the way?, or is this just a hospital... only, if I live here... am I allowed to have some ornaments?
Oop, oh hang on, oh... oh dear... Oh dear. NURSE,
I'VE DONE IT AGAIN I'M AFRAID.

I've just been trying to get in contact with my old typography tutor Phil Baines who is the immutable law on such things but it seems he's so steeped in tradition he doesn'st even have a fucking website that daft old bastard.
I tell you this though if Phil Baines was here, he'd have all your guts for bloody garters, I can tell you. Bloody recidivists.

I've consulted the masterminds at Typophile. Stay tuned. I'm willing to admit that I might be wrong if some Tobias Frere-Jones tells me to listen to my designer-cum illustrator elders.
