damn, this is a tricky subject.... How about email lists? It may not be as personal as you want, but you can blast a few hundred or thousand businesses. Other than that, yes, i would email them and let them know WHY i am contacting them, WHAT i do and HOW we can work together to improve their shitty ass 'my cousin did it for free at my daughter's bday party' website.

That's the tricky bit.
You may know what you're talking about, but they wont know your web lingo from the crock of shit the other guy sold them.

Soooo.... if I go to a jobfair or professional convention and pick up every single business card available, and email everyone my information and offer my services, is that considered spam? Is it illegal? Has anyone ever done it?
- When you're picking it up ask, "can I send you our newsletter?" They say yes and it's not spam.blaw
- If you send them an email saying "I saw your business card at.." I'd think it was fair game. Fuck legality.detritus
- Not exactly related to the topic at hand, though.blaw
- so, if I don't ask, can I get in trouble? ;)OSFA

I went to a local bar with co-workers for happy hour. I checked their site before leaving as I'd never been there before. The site sucked. So when I was there, I told the waitress their site sucked and she agreed and asked if I wanted to talk to the owner. I did and I've been running their site for almost 4 years now.
