I want ATDI back. I appreciate the Mars, but the ATDI killed it.

I saw ATDI years ago and that singer wrapped himself in duct tape from head to toe like a mummy then stage dived into the drum kit all while singing the same song. Classic Rock Show!

TheBlueOne FTW
Even as much as I loved ATDI, when the split up into their sects, it just wasn't the same. Sparta is the lame, uninventive jock rock half of ATDI. Yawnable at best.

cool, ill have to check sparta out
the mars volta also remind me of a group called "the music"
they have some pretty good stuff

I saw TMV a few years ago in NY and I actually left before it was over. It was these 18 minutes songs with these self-indulgent guitar solos that went on forever. I prefer Sparta, although agree that their last effort was shaky at best. However, Jim Ward has an ep coming out - or is out...?
*Note I rarely leave a concert before the lights come on.

Re TMV:I just can't get into them, and I want to. Being near 40 I remember all the prog/jazz Berkley grad student stuff my guitar teacher in the early 80's forced me to listen to and it reminds me of a lot of that. Which I liked and disliked at the same time. Conceptually I dig 'em, I just can't listen to them for more than three minutes wondering where the fuck the melody is...
- yeah...that's pretty much it.marychain
- Yeah it's like Bitches Brew as played by the early 80's Chili Peppers with Ornette Coleman sitting in...TheBlueOne
- Whoa Blue One, nice referencesstoplying

Sometimes i like them....sometimes I think to myself "Is this music?...wtf is this?
sometimes he screeches and the guitar goes all wonky-fiddly
I'm not sure how i feel about The Mars Volta

It's all a little too "trying to be strange" these days. For some bands, weird really comes out without looking contrived, TMV are not one of those. Albeit, I did enjoy moments of them. I suppose they could be a guilty pleasure.

Mars Volta > Arcade Fire

i am staring at my ticket right now.. me an 4 fellas from the office are heading down after work and a couple drinks at the westend pub..
they are one of my fav bands.. you all sound like a bunch of fucking haters..

TMV > Sparta. I didn't like ATDI either, but I don't think they're bad at all. Sparta makes me think of AFI.

Sparta is so flat, Mars Volta is mostly too masturbatory, ATDI was the perfect mix between the two. Lord knows how much I miss them.
