meeklo:
"how about being able to design with an sustainable thinking?
with a bit of education you can stay in your career and do it right :)"... well, I have been in the design field since 1996 or so.... I think I still do it right. I just find design in general a little less glorifying than helping preserve the environment, life.
But thanks for the advice, meeklo

Funny how he says it's dead because it's going to be replaced by other professions (apparently ones related to comfort and leisure); which means that he understands there's no really philosophy or content in it - but simply entertainment.
- EricStralow0
Also notice that they're all professions which could potentially make him less fat.

I felt like this today, I was designing yet another corporate ten year achievements presentation montage and I just thought fuck this I want to be out in the air and I want to be making something with my hands instead of this sheisse!!!!.
I may well jack it in, favouring a more robust form of work, I like to graft and feel satisfied when I am tired at the end of the day. Plus my lassie would fully want to beef me seen as I'm a bit more rough and no so much of a poofy designy type.- hahah, what?Jaline

philipe has been on this rant for a while - see TED - he thinks design lacks value and vision and is pointless - probably because we have too many production line universities churning out too many "designers" think that they are on this earth to create "5 second orgasms".
as for moving from design to something environmental/social - it's possible to combine both.
- [1st paragraph] - That's what I think too. [2nd paragraph] - Not so sure or is in contradiction with 1st paragrah.********

In that case I'm going to pay my gym trainer to do my work for me and piss off down the pub

i shit on this thread.

For what it's worth, the 5 second orgasm thing is more a commentary on the human condition then it is on design. IE: nothing matters so stop crying about it.
And if you stick around for a minute I'll explain that I didn't really cheat on you per say...but yes, my penis atoms did collide with vagina atoms that weren't yours...and if you wanna argue string theory and such then we should probably break up.
- That's very nihilistic - utterly non explanatory. No point in asking the value if you die, but what the value while I live.********

Dear Phillipe, We heard you are retiring. We are sorry to hear that, but respect your wishes to have a go at construction work after 40 years on a chaise longue with a Muji skecth pad. We wanted to get you something. Something who's form and function exist in perfect synergy. Something sensual and effective. Something for you to enjoy every day.
Best Wishes,
You good friends in the industry

I'm surprised how some take this at all seriously or as a depressing thing, rather than simply as a news story that should have headline of "famous designer goes starck raving mad"...

We could either go with the popular motto "things have changed", or admit Mr. Thoreau was right when he said: "Nothing changes, we do". Still, we'd be on the same side of the coin.
