Hi All.
I am just about to join a fresh start-up agency and they have no job numbering system which i need to put into place. I can do what i know or ask if anyone has a better idea. My idea is Client three letter abreviation followed by a four digit number (ABC_1234).
Please let me know if there is a revolutionary way to number up (if at all) jobs?

just keep it sequential.

to be honest I wouldn't bother with the client abbreviation, you might get clients with similar names and confusion will set in. At my last place there was a job book, any job that came in got logged in the book, and it was just a pure numbering system.

number then client name then job title

client named folder > 1234_abc_website_r1_v1
1234 = job number
abc = client intials
r1 = route 1
v1 = version 1

XXYYYZZZ
X = year / Y = Client Code / Z = Sequential Number
e.g. 08NIK632 - if you're lucky enough to have 632 jobs from Nike in 2008.

"My idea is Client three letter abreviation followed by a four digit number"
Exactly what we use, eg FWK0001. Dates and other job info are contained in the timesheeting system we have.
