A question about ecommerce sites

The people in the studio next to me run a business selling ecommerce shops. I'm really intrigued by them as they seem to me to be blagging it a bit. They've had various 'business ventures' over the years and can conjure up all sorts of design related, medical and even hairdressing (!) credentials for themselves as and when it suits their latest 'new business angle'.
I would like to know if there's any viability in selling online ecommerce shops as it seems to me that its more common for eshop packages to be made available for free.
Does anyone know about ecommerce shops on here and if so, is the selling of packaged eshops a worthwhile area of business to be in?

Depends how good their product is to be honest.
I don't see why you couldn't make money selling a well built shop. I don't think the free shops are particularly good unless you're small time selling a few t-shirts or crappy buttons.

I'd love to post a link and get an idea of what people think of their product, but they'd follow the trail back here and I'd have egg on my face so I'll refrain from doing so... Don't want to upset the neighbours!
- can't you post their name and we can google them perhaps?
jamble - I thought about that but some helpful soul may decide to make life easier for everyone by posting a link!Spookytim
- Don't be a coward. They make eCommerce sites, and they're afraid of internet traffic?AndyRoss
- No, but if they see lots of QBN referals in their visitor data they're naturally going to come and check it out.Spookytim

You can make a decent living doing it.

I just had a little look at your stuff. I don't really understand this sort of thing as I'm webstupid, but what you're doing looks more polished and high-end, and probably for bigger businesses than my neighbours, who are very parochial in their approach and offer the online equivalent of little boutique shops for shoddy crafts made by by local halfwits.
But it seems there is a viable business for them in this area, so I must go next door and cheer them on at some point, as opposed to sitting here listening in disbelief through the papier mache wall at the utter shoite they talk.

@spookytim
Exactly...I tend to target the higher-end shops and turn down work for smaller ones because they're not worth the headache.
But there is money to be made in a turn-key solution with an easy templating system. Working on that for later this year ;)
