I never turn mine off, it sleeps when I'm not using it and you can restart it without opening when it needs a reboot. The only time its off is when I'm travelling. I will turn it on before putting it in the stand when I get home each time.

Nice plans.
Looks like a pain i the ass though, you'd have to place your MacBook open first, fire it up, log in, close it then place it into the stand.
What about V type slots where it will rest upright while slightly open enough to get the the power button, then snap close and it would rest on and angle.

I finished my macbook stand tonight. I stuck at woodwork!
At least it does what it's supposed to do, it's pretty study and would need a good elbow to go over.
All up it cost me 6 dollars as I had danish oil left over from my bench tops in the kitchen.
My study is still a mess but I have more room to put my wacom when it arrives now.
- nice work! I would've used cork or something similar for the padding though.doesnotexist
- *I suck at woodwork.slappy
- Its high density felt, it doesn't scratch and doesn't have much give in it. Cork has a nice old school feel though.slappy
- it would go with your wood theme better, ja?doesnotexist
- Maybe on the next laptop :)slappy

I just did it. the mac 17" is closed and using a 24" monitor instead, and the new tiny wireless keyboard (lookin' good) and wireless mouse. still on the desk doh. a stand would be nice. :-)

Thanks got it!

Well it is not a bluetooth keyboard nor mouse. Just the wired one. But when you plug the monitor you can still see the finder on the laptop. If I close the laptop the finder is not shown neither on the laptop nor in the monitor... Can I still do it? Thanks a lot!

Plug in a keyboard and mouse. If its a blue tooth keyboard and mouse go into the blue tooth or keyboard/mouse preferences and select allow bluetooth device to wake this computer.

Hey how do you use your laptop closed?. My boss is going bananas trying to get the macbook to work with an external screen and the macbook closed but not even the IT department could figured it out how to do it!

Made a basic version up on the weekend, works and looks good. Just need to pick the right timber and find a good padding material. I was thinking felt but rubber foam might be better.
As far as heating, my fan hasnt spun up enough for it to become audible once, even after a big session of photo processing.

It has been working fine for me for about 5 years even on my older powerbook and now my new powerbook. I keep my laptop closed at all times with an extrenal display, keyboard, etc...
