Mostly going to be running CS3 - Flash, PS , After Effects, Premiere etc... If that makes a difference.

All these anti-PC people are making normal Mac users look bad.

Vista, its alot better than xp, sure it doesn't deleiver all in an operating system...but no os is perfect and users always want more...the people who thinks xp is a better os are obviously retarded and am sure were the same set of idiots who thought windows me was better than xp.
Rule of thumb...never listen to nerds with seperation anxiety!

i say XP. Microsoft is already working on the next version of windows. It may be years until that actually gets released but I think XP is good enough for a year or two, especially with SP3 coming out soon.

Explorer crashes for me in XP at least twice a day. Even though it may run a little faster i find it to be much less reliable than Vista. CS3 and vista home premium run smoothly for me on my 2 and a half year old Dell.

XP - vista is all bling (and uses more processor for it). MS always release with ten of thousands of known bugs, vista is no different.
Xp has them ironed out now and is better for it imo. I havent seen any real justification towards vista in this thread yet

XP if your machine is low-mid end, Vista if you machine is a beast with shitloads of RAM, and you don't mind looking around for drivers for various apps & other plug in devices...
XP is plug & play, Vista is plug and try work out how the fuck to get the thing going...

I installed Vista on teh new workstation and it's TERRIBLE! XP performed way better, especially with Adobe progs whcih now run slow as $h!t. Problem is, Microsoft is going to stop selling XP this summer, so you rilly are forced to install Vista. My hardware is more than enough for Vista too (Dell Precision Workstation, Dual Zeon 3.2 CPU's and 4 gigs of RAM). Coming from a PC person : Get a MAC. I'll be switching real soon.

I called DELL, even though it says "DELL recommends VISTA" on the top of their site, the sales rep I spoke to said they recommend XP as VISTA still has many bugs.

The little of Vista I've used annoyed the fuck out of me - though this was partly because I tried it on an underpowered machine and mostly because I couldn't see it as being that big an advance over XP. Some of the UI elements really did annoy the heck out of me - if you're a long-term PC user, the assumptions it makes on your behalf will probably annoy you. I like a machine that is coldly logical - I don't want it second guessing me or doing things on my behalf. Also, the constant security alerts annoyed me - when I 'fixed' them (using some fricking hack) I didn't feel assured that there was ANY security running. Also, there are massive legacy hardware conflicts - and I'm only talking hardware (in my case, a LinkSys router and an HP printer) that were about 3 years old.
However, if you're going for a high power workstation and if you plan on playing ANY new games (or doing anything that might require DirectX10), I guess I'd 'recommend' going for Vista - it is, after all, the supported modern Microsoft OS.
If you don't need DX10 - well, maybe it's worth going with XP for the meanwhile, and upgrading to Windows 7 in 2010 - it's only two years, which on a working machine might not make any difference to your workflow.

If you have the correct set up in your computer ... there is no reason why you shouldn't use Vista.
The people who complain about Vista simply don't have the processor power for it (for the most part).
I only have one gripe with Vista and that is if you make a custom toolbar on the taskbar and then lock said taskbar ... you can see just a little bit of the folders to the left of the arrow.

Also as a side note, my work just gave me a new laptop coming from Dell and it's about as suped up as you can get a laptop ... and it came with XP. :X
