does anyone else see black rectangles?
- doctor0
If by rectangles you mean the dark horizontal bands, yes.
- No, I mean flat black images. I see no gradiated color at all.harlequino
- +1 tiny little dark imagessikma

I've stared at those black rectangles long enough to actually see a gradient from black to extremely dark green. Could be an optical illusion or the monitor playing tricks on me, though.

Seems like the dark green color is the problem, right here and now. Maybe your displays aren't bright enough to show it?
I will ligthen it up a bit, to get the actual point through.

- my eyes! the goggles do nothing!7point34
- Do they still come of as flat black rectangles to you?doctor
- Think I need an eye test. Then and IQ test. Then a paternity test.Jnr_Madison
- Not as bad and I can see the banding but the gradient is not obvious.Jnr_Madison
- ..it is when I stare at it for a short while tho.Jnr_Madison
- its so dark, and thats the lightened version? i had to get really close to the screen to see the gradient at all7point34

i can see bands but i can barely see the gradient at all... it still looks insanely dark. why would you be worried about this. no one will notice unless they know what to look for
- doctor0
It gets a lighter when I save it for the browser, and then it's more obvious. Otherwise I would agree.
Anyway, the problem with the bands remain the same, sadly.
- I guess you've already tried doing the same gradient in a new file?Jnr_Madison
- try png?7point34
- I've tried both those things. PNG only makes the colors a little more uniform, but the bands are still there.doctor

your monitor brightness must be really high
- doctor0
I guess so. However I still notice the bands when I turn the brightness 30-40 % down, but that's maybe because I know what to look for...

- that looks okay - i don't see any bandingsikma
- Hm, actually it works, eh? Finally!
Looks like I just had to try about 50 times first.doctor - And we can actually see the gradient!!!Jnr_Madison
- finally, i see somethingharlequino

I'll just summarize how I fixed it:
1. Made the gradient in a new transparent layer. The gradient was a dark green --> transparent.
2. Set the layer mode to overlay.
3. I merged the gradient layer down to the green "background" layer.
4. Added Noise Filter 0.1 %.
5. Saved for Web & Devices, JPG maximum quality. This doesn't seem to nail it every time though, but it worked out here.

Have you guys seen this site?
I was going to email this guy and ask how he did his gradient for his background, but I don't speak Italian. Anyone know how he did it? Or could ask him how he did it? I got the background image and took a close look and noticed noise but I wasn't sure how he got it to look so good. I've tried adding noise to my gradients with no luck.
