Anyone else suffering in their jocks at the moment?
I have 3 or 4 client sites including mine on a shared host account with Dreamhost .... all sites have been down for the last hour :)
Time to move... Media Temple?

I see I see -> http://www.dreamhoststatus.com/2…
Apparently Dreamhost did a blog post telling everyone about the downtime. Who reads the dreamhost blog!? Could have at least emailed everyone.
Suffering .... in .... my ... jocks

yeah i like this idea, move tenfold of that time moving to somewhere else

Media Temple isn't all what they are cracked up to be.

On the right there are more then enough RSS feeds to keep you up to speed.

Someone suggested http://www.theplanet.com/ to me recently - the cheapest from the 99.99% always up ones.

The Planet (was EV1 Servers) are about the cheapest anywhere if you need high-transfer unmanaged dedicated servers. (They might also be the biggest host anywhere?) We have a couple of servers with them, unmanaged, minimal service, but done well.

Is there anything comparable ribit? Or a chart with pricing/reliability? There must be lots of charts like that somewhere..
- ribit0
I cant find it either (used to be there)... They've always been focussed on dedicated servers... I think unless you want to get, say a dedicated server for $69/mth, you are better with mt, Dreamhost, etc

I'm looking for a server that'll be capable of sustaining heavy load, with plenty of database transactions.
If I were to judge dreamhost by awaiability of sites hosted, ie. www.imgdumb.com, it's simply a disaster - unless it's an imgdumb issue.

Bluehost seems good?

the planet's chat popup is so annoying, I bet majority of potential customers leave the site before checking their offer
- rafalski0
there is a good blog on server architecture http://highscalability.com/

Never had any problems from mt. Best control panel interface I've seen and (almost) instant response from support.

Dreamhost is usually fine. Which isn't something you should accept, necessarily, even though customer service in general, around the world, is going to shit, but I've never had problems with them.

I just hate the low quality of design of the control panel pages on Dreamhost... like the price.
- rafalski0
Is bluehost really $7/mo for all in the chart? What if I exceed the 15gb download quota? I can't find a pricelist on their site.. looks bogus
- nuggler0
Bluehost is awesome... btw I am a Bluehost affiliate, which means I get $65 if you get there via my link: http://www.bluehost.com/track/jb…
Maybe that's uncool to mention here, but it is in the context of the thread... I literally have never noticed any down time with my site or any of several clients on there. The $7/mo price is good but that's if you pay 2 years up front.
