Watched this movie for the first time last night and absolutely loved it. Very Departed-esque to me.
But can someone tell me why Tilda Swinton won the Best Actress Oscar for that? She was great, but I bet she didn't have more than 20 minutes of screen time total. Seemed more of a best supporting actress role to me.

Probably because the Oscar she won was for Best Supporting Actress...

She won Best Supporting Actress. And deservedly so :-)

Great movie. I absolutely loved the closing shot.

- You mean something after the cab ride?mg33
- No, the cab ride shot. Conveys the weight lifted off the main character's shoulders profoundly, IMHO.duckofrubber
- I think it's the opposite. I think the character was in denial until his little mono log, and now knows not what to do.JKilla77

it really blew me away from start to finish. In fact, (and possibly because both my girlfriend and my cat were laying across me on the couch, asleep) I immediately started watching the commentary.
George Clooney is a hell of an actor in movies like that.

i just saw it saturday. awesome film. Tilda Swinton was good and british...so she played a good yankee.

Loved it too. Really ace. Tilda Swinton was good but not Oscar worthy I don't feel. She made the viewing uncomfortable with her uncomfortable clothes which was a nice touch I thought, but I wouldn't have thrown her a gong for her bit.
- that was the essence of the character. She's a fraud, and she knows it.harlequino

Pretty good film, but not as good as There Will Be Blood or No Country IMO, or The Departed for that matter.

sidebar trivia-
Tony Gilroy, the writer director is supposedly the butt/punchline of the joke in "Ocean's 13," when Matt Damon applies the 'Gilroy,' a chemical enhancement for seducing cougars.
