I just had an interview to pos do a longterm freelance job at a large branding agency downtown. I spoke briefly with the hr lady but will need to have a fuller discussion about hourly rate. In the past, i've always charged by the project. Can some of you with better experience let me know what good Sr. Designer rates are for freelance work in NYC?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't have a regular hourly. In the past it's been bid on project. The work would be branding and packaging. At present, it looks like it could be a 7mo thing. Considering the length and that they are a major company would it be out of line to ask for insurance?

so, when you figure out project prices, you're not using hrly rates?

ask for $95 and hour, then go from there.

re hourly rates... no, not so much. my partners and i for the other stuff wing it based on project size and rate. honestly, my rate falls somewhere between 75 and 125 but it's not etched in stone and i don't bid on it. So when i'm asked what i'd charge for an hour at somebody else's shop at at a loss for what the NYC rates are for freelancers.
Thanks spendogg. Hope some others will chime with any other price ranges. Again, thank you all for your help.
- ", I'm at a loss..." is how that last sentence should read. ;)DoubleKing

so ask for 125 and see what happens.
