It can be very distracting, but I suspect people get used to it after a while. Seems kind of bland (in terms of colour) though. Maybe that's to even out the effect?

Cool, but if that's a 'hallway' then forget having to step over something every few paces. That would be annoying as hell. This form did not follow it's function.
