Most of the new tracks on the album here - a few missing that weren't on seeqpod when I made this.
I have to say, this is nothing on Dummy.

I saw them live on Thursday night... they were really good, almost too good, as it was like listening to the albums... which kind of made me think, bleh!
Wasn't helped by the audience who obviously haven't been to a concert for 10 years, and either sat chatting through it or taking bloody photos...

Is the 1st track supposed to cut off abruptly ???

Gawd. Isn't portishead the music all qbn members listen too? Typical hey i'm a graphic designer music and so hip. Add Radiohead to it and you're da man.

I think this is their best album personally. I find Dummy quite hard to listen to now.
- Wandering Star? Roads? Sour Times? Really?ninjasavant
- Dummy was good but it reminds me of a time etc etcJerseyRaindog

It actually really good musically. Much better than their other albums. I'm not a fan of the lyric and have grown tired of her singing. But I really like a lot of what's going on in the music.
- Thats a fair estimation of how I feel as wellninjasavant

I've seen P'head in their sold out concert in Milan last march. Beth's voice is amazing... My new favourite is "Magic Doors". A great album.

I have just listen to the album, WHAT a pill of crap it is, Sad really because Portishead are a great bad?

now that I've gotten through it for the 3rd time I can honestly say I'm disappointed. There's a couple songs that are just OK but overall it lacks not just the punch of early Portishead but also the elements that make up a good album.
What I'm hoping at this point is that this isn't the last album they produce but more a slight departure from their normal quality. I can respect them if they just wanted to try something but I would hate for this to be the last impression we get from them.
Its been kind of epidemic lately, great bands from my youth come back to pump out a mediocre or worse effort. Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, Portishead, REM, Metallica, etc they all seem to have lost whatever IT was.
In Weezer's case the most recent album seems to be atoning for the sins of that last one (jury is still out) and I hope Portishead can do the same eventually.

the new REM is fucking brilliant
your opinion is now null & voidmarychain - its ok, I just don't think it compares to monster or automatic.ninjasavant
- ok...maybe not automatic
but WAY better than monstermarychain - Loved monster.ninjasavant
- New REM is ok, definitely a slight return to form.JerseyRaindog

Ninja, I disagree with you about the Portishead album - think it's terrific but it takes a few listens. I do think it shows a maturity and development of their sound. I think I mentioned before but I find Dummy hard to take now. It was played to death when it first came out (by me and the rest of the world) and when I hear a song from it now I just switch off. I love the krautrock direction and think that its willfully obscure direction is what's putting people off. It doesn't sound like Dummy part 3 because they're all older and have moved on. Anyway I'm going on a bit...
In terms of recent comebacks, The Breeders album is quite good and Frank Blacks Svn Fingers is the best thing he's done since the Pixies as far as I'm concerned.

Just picked it up today, holy hell it's good. Creepy and dark and it's like the soundtrack for ghouls to lurk through dark alleys to.

So when's the new Tricky album coming out then?

why is everyone liking this? its total crap....must...keep...listening... if im wrong...

Jersey & mg33 - agreed. Love how dark it feels, and the sounds they use. Plus the end of 'machine gun' is sooo terminator, A+!!
The album is genius, to me anyway, but each to their own I guess.
