Has anyone got any suggestions on how to best show off websites in print.
My boss wants images nice and big in our company brochure but screen grabs are poor quality when made big. Taking a photo of a screen was sounded out by a colleague, but won't this be difficult?
We have photoshoped websites onto a pic of a mac in the past so we were looking for something a little more exciting.

Why not photoshop a pic of a mac onto the website??!

can you scan a screen?
- that the way to go, scan the screen, just make sure it;s at 700dpi or something.roundabout

Scan the screen? Can you do that?!
- I like to print out my screen grabs on a 3d printer.Jnr_Madison
- ..of course you can scan the screen just make sure you seek psychiatric help right after it though.Jnr_Madison

Of course you can - better with a larger surface flatbed, with a high DPI and less than 30ms Scan time (ie. most about any modern scanner).
Obviously, it needs to be quite sturdy - though if you can put a laptop on, then more's the better. One hint - Use a taut wrap of cellophane so that if there's some screen contact (unavoidable, really), you don't risk scratching either surface. Sometimes, however, this can interfere with te picture quality (especially with modern 'green' cellophanes), so it's better to just ensure you've got a mm or so clearance.

Oh crap - nearly forgot the MAIN thing - one problem with screen scanning is horizontal pixel alignment - you can get a slight moire effect if it's off too much - kind of like the inverse of scanning from print. So don't be too dismayed if you get some weird artefacts straight off. Just realign, and persevere!
- Sorry, I'm only one cup of tea in to my day - head still a bit fuggy.detritus

Sounds a bit mental to me! I wouldn't want to risk breaking my work computer. Would probably print out a screen grab and then scan in high res, but that'll probably come out furry

Nah, it's only bad if you try sticking a 32" CRT behemoth on a dinky wee single A4 scanner! ;) If you don't have access to a laptop to scan from, you can always just invert the setup - mount your monitor on its back, then place the scanner face down on top. I did this for an Orange campaign back in '02, to good effect. It's worth it in the end.
One other thing to watch out for is the input brightness - probably a bit obvious if you're even half aware of how computers work - but obviously you might need to consider reducing the input threshold. Sorry, don't think I'm talking down to you here.. just covering the basics! Mind you, this is more an issue on the older series Canon scanners (my current 2 year old one is ok though).
- Input wha?! Scanning a monitor is very new to me...coolhipNgroovy
- i see you're really serious about this...Corvo
- but yeah reducing monitor brightness makes senseCorvo
- Don't worry about it - if, when you scan, the output is too white - change the brightness setting in your scan softwaredetritus
- or, as corvo says - the monitor's output brightness (though, this can make it look very grey, at least in my experience)detritus

man, that was some good weed i had. this thread is a trip.

get it drum scanned. much higher res.
- detritus0
If you get weird results, please feel free to post some images of the scan output - I've done this enough times to be able to discern what the common problems are, and how to resolve them.

one day there will be scacreeners.
- There can be only one.Jnr_Madison
- you mean scranners?Jaline
- yes - that's phase 2Corvo

Now for another question: How do you like to present websites on paper?
- agentfour0
Papiér Mache.

btw, try this and let us know how it went:
http://sourceforge.net/project/s…
for PC- just created a huge TIFF with it.Corvo
- Ah bums, I'm on a Mac.coolhipNgroovy

i just resize the screenshots in ps with nearest neighbor selected, otherwise they don't look like screenshots if they are hi-rez, no?

leave your monitor in the street turned up for one week, then you get your scan in maps.google.com
- coolhipNgroovy0
That looks pretty cool.

I just tried scanning a flatbed scanner and a time rift opened up in my front room.
Any ideas how to fix this, anyone?
- Have you tried reversing the polarity of the scanner?ian
- Randd0
then autotrace your monitor scans
