Hear this:
Dutch Tax Dept "De Belastingdienst" lost all their data from the last few VAT innings. It's about half a million accounts they lost.Now here's the real story, to check the data of citizens/companies they are currently analyzing http://www.hyves.nl/ which is the Dutch equivalent of Myspace.com and almost everyone has a profile page there, including the prime minister and tons of companies as well.
This is so unbelievable I can't even get to the idea of thinking about the ethical side of this.

In Norway this information is being made available by the state every year -- huge databases on every citizen. One of the most important principles in Norwegian law is that everyone can know how much you contribute to society
