I'm working on a mobile device that will have a screen (naturally) but above and below the screen (spanning to the edges of the face will have some type of pattern or grid. Maybe like this watch's band:
This pattern will be behind the touch panel's glass and behind the pattern will be
electronic/led lights. They will be programmable, so a mix between decoration and function...shapes can be displayed to represent simple concepts. Battery level. Signal strength. Etc...Has anyone seen any patterns that might work well for this? The material really can be anything that will let light permeate either by physical holes or it's transparency.
(Hopefully this makes sense...)
Thanks in advance.
Mosko.

You mean that you're looking for a thin opaque/transluscent material to sandwich between layers in your device? How thick can it be?
Have you considered going for a generic material and having it laser cut/etched with a pattern of your choosing?
- as I understand, he's looking for a grid wich he can display (abstract) info inneverblink

Don't forget the apple power LED... thin metal with microperforations to let light shine through without letting you see the turned-off LED... might be worth considering
