I rememeber when I was 11 or 12 (circa 1980) I saved up my pennies and bought this oversized hardcover book of fantastic starship illustrations & paintings. Berkey's stuff was in there, but there were a few other guys in the same era who had a similar style..really cool stuff..more streamlined and organic than the whole "Star Wars" hobbled together junk view of starships...I'll have to dig through my moms attic to see if it's still around, although my hunch is it's long gone...I used to stare at that book for hours and imagine myself in those painting at the far edges of the universe doing cool stuff...

When i was a kid i used to go to the library all the time to borrow this series of 3 sketchbooks, each dedicated to a film of the original Star Wars trilogy. The 2 names I remember from those books are Joe Johnston and Nilo Rodis Jamero. Now I must search to see if i still have those...

Growing up in germany, my main exposure to sci fi illos were the Perry Rhodan paperbacks; it's apparently the longest-running sci fi series ever (started in the 50s and is still going); these things were in every store that had magazines, every week a new one. I loved the covers but oddly never read any of them.
There's huge cover galleries here:

I sat at home last night reading this thread and thought "When I get in to the studio tomorrow I'll check in my book and post the name up" and then I got in my studio and remembered that the book I have with this guy's work in was three feet away from my head at home last night.
So whoever it is... yeah, its that bloke.
