It gets pretty insane reviews here. Some critics even saying Page deserves multiple Oscars for her work.
I am pretty curious now.

I liked SAVED! better

after hard candy who would not want to watch ellen page?

I thought it was pretty okay but not all that good. I liked Ghost World a hell of a lot better.

not bad, not great. Suffers from being over written in quite a typically too self aware americo-indie way. Some nice bits, a nice sub Harold and Maude feel (which is obligatory these days, see W.Anderson). Michael Cera is a star, as will be the girl when she gets something less self conscious to work on.
I liked it, but its had far too much hype. like every other film which appears that is slightly above the usual line.

spot on kelpie. my thoughts exactly.

I know about all the hype surrounding it, but I think I will go in with reservations....but...can I? I'll see if I can convince myself that the movie is not as good as it appears to be (thanks, kelpie!) and then I may be impressed with it by the end.
- don't get me wrong, its a nice film and worth a watch.kelpie

Ok, so I finally saw this film. Overall, I really agree with kelpie's thoughts.
Worst things about the movie:
-The hype surrounding it. Well written, but not earth shattering at all. Some positive themes about youth, feminism, and responsibility, but a very safe indie film.
-That fucking dialogue. Enough with the ironic hipster speak and hamburger phones.Best things about the movie:
-Fantastic character development. I really thought I had everyone pegged as their surface stereotypes. Loved the reveal of sincere and oft unexpected depth to all characters, and some real nice honest moments. That mall scene was lovely.
-That fucking dialogue. A few laughs, but it taught me a very very valuable writing lesson for my own filmmaking aspirations. I may be inclined to write in my own pseudo speak and marvel at my cleverness, but that shit gets annoying and contrived real fast.*Note: That said, if Diablo Cody's true underlying message is "you may think you have me pegged as a young hipster writer and this generation figured out as being callow and predictable, but guess again," than that would be a brilliant bit of subversion. If not, well...let's see what the ex-stripper does next.
A fun flick though.

Watch it over the weekend, really good movie, with lots of charm.

This movie is about 10 years too late. Missed the mark completely. The dialogue was dreadful. The writers seemed like they were trying toooo hard. Reaked of effort. How many cliches can you fit in one movie. I fell asleep mid way through. I rarely fall asleep in flicks. Time I wont get back.

This film is fucking awful. If you like Amelie and it made you feel "hey I'm special and quirky too just like her" then you will probably enjoy it.
An absolutely contrived, self-concious attempt to be hip and 'wacky' completely clouded what clould have been a genuine film. The 16 year old with the irritating irony of a jaded 30year old was pretty unconvincing too.
Shite.

I finally saw this movie last night. I really enjoyed it - luckily the stupid "ironic hipster dialogue" as harlequino called it wasn't as bad as I expected.
But it was a real annoyance - no one talks like that. No one says "honest to blog." I hate movies that make up dialogue and catch phrases like that one did.
The only really strange part of the movie was the scene with dancing with Jason Bateman, and just hanging out with him in general in that scene. WTF was up with that?
It was a sweet movie in many parts. Harlequino, I like your take on it the character development. It was pretty good.
I really like Michael Cera as well. He's like the actor that's not an actor and is just uncomfortable and at the same time quiet and normal.
