woooooooooooooooo!!!!
offered to give 2-4 weeks notice but they declined and said to have my desk empty by EOD.
I'm both nervous as shit and invigorated at the idea of being solo and my own LLC now.
Luckily i have enough work to keep me too busy for reality to set in.
GAME ON

Tell us all about how it went down? What was the last straw?
How many clients are you taking with you?
- kerus0
i was in my annual review and told them i was leaving the company in 2 weeks. being laid off is usually prompted by them, not the employee.
- my review was comming up also, got laid off instead. cheaper that way for them. fuckers.akrokdesign

long story, but really i havent been happy in years.. the last straw was when i was told i need to improve my "web skillset" from people who think rainbow color palettes and beveled buttons are still cool.
taking zero clients, thank god. if i never work for another "baby boomer focused financial company" again it will be too soon.
- Kudos to you.MrOneHundred
- they probably wanted bigger logos too. idiots.dbdesign
- rainbow color palettes and beveled buttons are not cool anymore???!!! OMGalla

congrats. i gave notice recently to go out on my own again too. it is a little scary, but very liberating. enjoy your new freedom.

god i envy you... just wish i had the balls to just leave. find a new one first, eh?

actually i was given a large bonus and a 12% salary raise while being slapped in the face in the review, thats how the place worked.
i pretty much left no bridgebehind at all when i told them i dont enjoy the work or the clients or the procedural bullshit and hoops we jump through. so there wasnt exactly room for "hey wanna do some freelance lolol"i always thought the freelancers around me were very cut throat but it turns out they are all extremely supportive of my move and are pushing work my way to help me out. good times.
bosses took it very personally. i had been there 7 years and neither even came down to say bye or anything. OH WELL. PEACE.

I've gotten fired, um, uh, let me count...

once for calling the boss out on being a bull shit artist.
once for subordination and calling the boss a pig fucker or something.
once for not being able to hack (this one I was never clear on)
once for trying to deck someone I worked with (he wouldn't turn around to face me)
I'm definitely executive material
- I once got a written warning for “excessive personal internet use” WTF?MrOneHundred

good for you kerus, if you do good work and you can get a few good clients you'll be fine as wine.

Going independent was a good move for me. I billed 18k in January with 2 steady clients.
