I have a problem with my imac at work. Insanely, my boss thinks it's a good idea to work on these. It is for the most part but when there's some large image / Photoshop work to be done, the whole thing just siezes up like it needs a colonic irrigation.
Is there anything to 'defrag' a mac as such? the thing I used to do to my PC (all those years ago) when it got slow worked wonders...
Is it repair disk permissions or something?

Nothing wrong with using an iMac. Try some or all of the following:
• Try Going to Applications> Utilities> Disk Utility and repairing permissions from the first aid tab.
• Check how much space you have free on your hard drive, the more intense the load you are putting on the machine the more disk space it will need to use for additional memory.
• Free up some RAM by quitting programmes you don't need open, including dashboard widgets.
• Run Software Update from the Apple menu to check your OS is up to date.
• If you have lots of files on your desktop consider moving them off as OS X treats each file as its own window. The more files you have on there the more RAM/graphics processing power will be used displaying them (especially as the desktop is the one Finder window that is always in view regardless of what you are doing).Hope this helps.

I used to reinstall every 6 months or so. Its not such a bad thing and it'll keep your mac nippy the whole time :P
- If you do, you can use the 'Archive & Install' feature... http://docs.info.app…creative-

it's been said that you no longer need to match sticks of ram (1gb - 1gb, 2gb - 2gb sticks) but on the machines we have here where there is a 1gb stick and a 2gb stick they kinda run a little slow. i have 4gb at home, 2, 2gb sticks and the imac smokes. and again, activity monitor is your friend.

PS is a bitch almost no matter what.. Depends on the version of PS and what OS you are running all in conjunction with your machine.. Whether its an Intel or not..
