johnny lee miller.
always liked that guy. good actor.
but now youre seeing all these british actors comin to american shows. not movies, you know, fakin an accent for a film or two. but full series. its weird.
Frances O'Connor is now in that lame ass show cashmere mafia. pretending to be american.
for you brits. does it feel like, uh, weird, seeing these 'regulars' from your corner comin to US and basically plunging completely into 100% americana.
or something. does it. doesnt it.

Yea it does feel weird actually, I don't understand it really. I mean obviously, maybe one or two actors would get offered rolls but it's almost as though its becoming stylish to get a part in a US show and fake being American now.
Hugh Laurie is SUCH a trend setter.

What bugs me even more though is when English actors are cast.. as English and they:
A) Are made to sound more "generic posh English" to fit the stereotype.
B) Are made to water down their /actual/ accent so it sounds rather plastic.I'd rather hear a convincing portrayal of an American accent from an English actor more than the shit that they get them to come out with!

We're cheap sluts, that's all.

hugh laurie does a great accent. probably the best I've ever seen

Laurie does it best. He's such a bastard too :D

but when americans do brits, that's a whole different story. it's pretty bad.

I think you should be a little more forgiving to the Americans that have to do British accents because the two rules I stated before also apply to them too. They have to be easily understood so they also have to "over do" the accents, just like British actors have to.
- yeah but they don't even get close enough to 'over do' themmenos

Charlie on Lost... my god, theres an annoying over the top, "lets REALLY sound British" Accent
RIP.

Scottish actors can't do anything but Scottish. Ewen McGregor, Sean Connery, Gerard Butler - all shite at accents.

"The Riches."
It's been renewed for another season.

Shit, I didn't realise he'd died - but my favourite American doing a bad British accent was Brion James in Tango & Cash (he was the dude who had a grenade stuffed down his pants).
Apparently this quote is attributable to him (I love Google)..
"I'm a parrot. I can pick up an accent and just do it."
Brion Jameser.. no.

"The Riches" isn't that bad. I have to say, Minnie Driver has redeemed herself through the show. And her accent is good!

I think Hugh Laurie is my favourite. On TV though, I'm getting good at telling when nearly anyone else has an accent or are not from the same place as the other characters are.
Including: Colonel Tigh from BSG (he's from Canada), Chuck from "Pushing Daisies" (she's British), and Agent Walker from "Chuck" (Australia).
A lot of the time they tend to have a slight lisp or some strange (yet, endearing) quality that makes me suspicious of their country of origin.

5timuli, Kevin McKidd sucks at first, but yes! he gets better with his accent on "Journeyman". Too bad that great show was cancelled :(

first 2 minutes of eli stone.
miller's american accent is actually pretty sloppy here. it was better in Hackers.. and thatw as over 10 years ago.

I really want to mention the lisp thing again. Why do a lot of women (actresses) who attempt (and actually...pass) an American accent have some subtle lisp? I guess it's just the transition or way the accent is.
- vague0
i dont know what lisp youre referring to.. but..
.
the one i fucking hate is the Brad Pitt "cool" subtle lisp. so many other fucking actor/actresses "have" that shit.alyssa milano.
freddie prinze. fucking jr.so. stupid.
