Not much reason to go w/ 600dpi unless it'll be getting scaled up. If thats the case, just stick w/ 300dpi and use the correct dimensions.

buy a mac? haha jk. Well kind of. Get a MacPro Octo with 6 to 8 gbs of ram and youll be fine.

Maybe check out Adobe's tech note on Photoshop CS3 performance optimization...

Thank you everyone. I'm on a dual core PC with 2Gb ram. I think I'll stick to 300 dpi unless it goes way up in speed once I add up 2 more Gb.
I've printed stuff at 150dpi too and thought it looked just fine as well.

That shouldn't be too bad... what are you working on, a G3 PowerBook?!

No.

do all your work in RGB and convert to CMYK as last (or near last) step.
but really not all that big of a file. i've worked much larger. you probably just need more RAM, and make sure there's lots of free space on your scratch disk.

20x30 @ 300dpi

Goto preference > performance and turn the cache levels right up. It'll update less frequently, speedign it up a little. Use a secondary scrach disc if possible and crank u the memory usage slider a little (not above 70%!)
And if you do increase the RAM usage, avoid using any background apps.
- yes, close all appz your not using.akrokdesign
- also dont have a ton of fonts loaded at the same time. only have the ones you need.akrokdesign
- I could go on all day about this shit but I must stop. Now. And sleep.kalkal
- oh, the cache thing will probably make photoshop seem to run like shit btw, but will actually use less cpu. but more ram.kalkal
- more ram.kalkal

600 DPI, are you creating a billboard or museum type print?
600 DPI is overkill. 300/360 DPI is the standard...- even most billboards dont require 600dpi. i used to do large outdoor signage and our files deoending on what the printer wanted would range from 100-200 dpitraut

unless your printer req. the file in 600, you could switch it to 300.
- acturlly, I heard that after 276, not much happends. except you gain a ton more MBs.akrokdesign
- nah i def don't buy that.horton
- When I printed a magazine our printers would be fine at 150dpi for quality. So I could believe that. ( We still submitted 300dpi files)univers
- depends on the printer of coursefrancoisfido

Do as much as you can in Illustrator first?
Or, get more RAM.

Why are you working at 600dpi?

Is there any way to make this combo work fast? 10X15 inches color document at 600dpi.
