Hi, need help with a gold gradient. I'm nearly there with my current one - but it still needs perfecting. Are there any good tutorials you could recommend?
Regards

Try this
1. Open document.
2. Select Gradient tool.
3. Select colours (light gold at one end, dark at the other).
4. Apply gradient tool to document.
5. High Five your good buddy and call up a hot babe on your wrist-mounted vidphone.
6. Overhear FBI agents discussing how to deal with imminenet Klingon invasion.
7. Get the gang together, fire up the nuclear scooters, activate the phasers (set to kill).
8. Ride out a Hero.
9. Lose soemone close to you in interstellar combat. Crouch on one knee in martian dust as single tear falls against an epic backdrop. Resume battle with vigour.
10. Return to earth, triumphant.
11. Save document.

Hey guys, doing a decent metallic effect isn't just as easy as doing as simple gradient in Illy, I'm sure you appreciate that.
Spooky - this strikes me as something you might actually be able to help with, given your expertise in digital illustration.. care to?

just for the record, is a fake address. hope you know that and are getting all your emails in any event...
- i heard that, at least in the UK, the new gmail accounts all have @googlemail.com and not gmail.com.menos
- what?? srsly? i know of lots of scams using that suffix; why i brought it up. sorry if i was incorrect.madirish
- yup, its british, unlike this guy APPARENTLYkelpie

or instead, someone should just point out that a gold gradient background to that flyer is a bad idea. if you have to do something like that, just print it using a metalic ink.
- i typed that just in case this wasn't a fake acount. but i'm pretty sure it is.********

I'm currently sat wondering why Randd arrived and said "dudes" like that. Is he smoking some pots?

Okay then Anthony Turner, the man with the generic head and suspiciously generic English sounding name. Here's the deal. Doing the metallic golds is my whole livlihood. I'm known for that round these parts and am generally considered to be blessed with "MadSkillz" in the digital metallics dept. Obviously I can't give my tips and tricks away for free as I'd soon find myself back on the assembly line at the Rover factory, but I will teach you the ways of "Tha Metallicator" for a one off fee, of, say, five hunded fiffy dollar?, in pounds? That's what Computer Arts pay so it seems fair.

Ah, ok, I see now there're related threads.. ouch, A_T - you've not had a good day here, have you?
The problem you've got is that, as skt says, you're not going to be able to pullof a convincing gold effect across an entire page - you really will need metallic finish for that. However, as Tank says, if you change the colouration of the page and use gold effect details sparingly, you may be able to.
In my experience, the way to make something look gold is to employ a sense of depth - usually by rimming (oo-er) one gradient with a counter-gradient. ie. One gradient by itself will usually jst look like yellow-to-orange.. not gold. So, in your example, you could make the header box one gradient, give it a thick stroke (oo-er) then add a counter gradient.
Last gold effect thing I did ended up consisting of two gradient sets - one light to mid, the other mid to dark.
Something else you need to pay attention to - in the brand you're working on, the gopld they've settled on is very Orange - which is an unnatural colour - it looks shinier and brighter, but it's not necessarily true. Normally, a gold gradient wouldn't be so vibrant and yellow and would include green tints.
If I were you, I'd go off the tintis provided in the brand and USE THEM SPARINGLY! Hope this helps.

Detritus, it's a fake account. Its some guy from UAE who's pissed at Kelipé but is yet to find a way to articulate it. I agree with you in general, but not here. Now, about that twenty...

If it is that cock monk from UAE, then just ignore him.
I'll be damned if my daily ranting has anything to do with adding $65 to some gibber monkey's FORTUNE.

But you're not though, are you, A_T?
You're real, aren't you? You wouldn't do this to me, would you?
Would you?
Say it ain't so!

Always believe it...
