Life in the country (1000 population here) working for the city (around 200.000).

One the one hand, I was raised a country bumpkin and I hate people, society, 'progress' and 'civilisation'. I can't stand the thoughtless greed and detached superficiality that cityfolk seem to exhibit and I miss nature and fresh air.
On the other, I get bored quickly, I think it's downright wrong to have to get in a car to do achieve simple things like buying food, going to work, I hate the impact increased population sprawl has on greenspaces and I loathe the 'culture vacuum' outside of urban areas.
In sum, I'm 30 and I still don't know where I'd rather be. In the country - gardening and building wood-framed homes with the other villagers. Or a more singular, reasoned, slightly cramped lifestyle, with full access to everything, 24/365 (enjoyed, for the most part, from in front of a computer).

Amsterdam is a great city that is small and feels like a village. It's got lots of nice parks and in 20 mins you're out of the city if you desire...
My advice, find the compromise...

Let's stop with the pretension *cough*CITYpeople*cough*
Honestly, to each his/her own.
I also have both aspects. I live in the suburbs, in front of a forest, and work in the city. As for school: my uni is about 5 minutes away from the city, but is situated beside a river. I think it's important to experience both/all sides...

I'd live in a unabomber shack in the middle of nowhere if it had broadband.

Of one thing I am sure - I don't think I ever want to live in the 'burbs.
I'm a cretinous asshole - not a pleb.
- The 'burbs are not the stereotypical 'burbs around here...Jaline
