i just got off the phone with my ISP and there telling me i either have a virus or spyware.
isnt it nearly impossible to get this on a mac ?
- AndyRoss0
Yeah, probably impossible on a Mac. But, you know, your brain could be messed up for a million different reasons. Or theirs.

is there any freeware appz that can scan for mac spyware ?
- Hall0
Sounds like you have the Fouty virus!
Apparently it can infect any type of device.
- Jaline0
Try to clean it up. Otherwise it's most likely a different problem.
- traut0
anyone else ever used that housecall-trendmicro ?

I know what you mean, but, I would put this up with ad-aware and spybot for the pc. I know there are a lot of shady virus stuff. but this is not one of them... don't know if they look for mac specific virus' or not.

google said this:
http://macscan.securemac.com/I have never used it so that's about all I can do to help.

you're ISP is totally BS'ing you so they don't have to deal with it.
i'm sure "tell customer they have a virus" is # XX on their list of textbook responses before actually listening to your issues.
- Jaline0
Yeah, they use the "you are downloading too many things" line a lot.

Repair permissions then restart.

hmm... did it used to be faster before? this is what i would do:
go to hard drive>applications>utilities>act... monitor
look for anything that looks non-system-ish and squash it. just be careful. do you have 56k?
- a_iver0
oops.. it's:
hard drive>applications>utilities>act... monitor
- a_iver0
weird...
activity monitor

it used to be really fast its cable internet sometimes it just crawls anymore, im going to try the repair permissions and check the actmon.
- ok_not_ok0
also, try turning off both router and modem for 10 seconds. Then power up everything again.

stop downloading porn while being on QBN. it goes much faster then. :-)
- traut0

Do you have Comcast? They said the same thing the other day to my father and shut down his internet. Needless to say he was pissed that they insisted on it even though he had a Mac. I explained it's just a pre-written line for when they fuck up and don't want to tell you about it. Oh well.
