I'm in need of some furniture and decided to save myself money that it might be cool to design and build it myself. I'm going to start with something simple, a platform bed. I've been looking all over google for some good plans but haven't found anything to my liking. Does anyone know of anything or can anyone suggest a good book. I'm looking for something similar to this: http://x818.com/cabinetnumber4/

That is pretty sweet.. the cabinets..
I actually designed and created my own platform bed..
I don't have the drawings/plans anymore but it is fairly easy.. Study up on different types of woods and stains.. Go by some higher-end furniture stores and study the platform beds..
Good luck..

Just don't skimp on the planning and you'll do fine. I'd recommend researching both bed projects and appropriate joinery. Beds take a heck of a lot of abuse, so they need to be built like a tank.

Taunton Press' books are superb. This title would suit your current cause:

They've had several articles on platform beds... not sure if their archives covers all the mag articles.

Thanks for all the responses. I picked up this book called Hand Made Modern over the weekend that has some really simple plans that I'm going to alter a little. http://www.amazon.com/Handmade-M…
I also found several books from the 60s with DIY plans. I might pick one of them up since they might be a little more authentic with the mid-century modern style.
