OK, this company I freelance for, gave me a stack of old Corbis catalogs. They want me to scan from them. Obviously, this is incredibly illegal. First off, if I am forced to do this, what is my liability, and second, what would happen to the company? Like, what level of lawsuit?

you will most likely be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law

Wow talk about dumb. If you do it, make sure you have your employers sign a piece of paper that says you are not liable in any way.

have them sign they're responsible for all materials they give you or you will be liable

noone will notice.... go on... do it

yeah - if you are freelancing, you should definitely have a them sign something that says they understand this is illegal.
But really isn't that akin to asking someone to sign a piece of paper that says "I realize that shooting people is wrong, but I elPaulo to shoot someone anyway"
don't do it is my advice. For the time it takes to scan and clean the images you can probably buy them cheaper online anyway.

No, it's having them sign "We assure the materials are kosher and if they're not we cover all legal issues and our asses are fistfucked"
